The evidence behind Bright Step
Bright Step is everyday wellness compression, not a medical device. But the case for light, graduated compression as a daily habit is well documented. Here are the sources behind the figures on our homepage, in plain language.
Compression and long-haul travel
Sitting still in a pressurised cabin slows the circulation in your legs. A 2016 Cochrane systematic review found that wearing graduated compression stockings substantially reduces the risk of symptomless deep vein thrombosis on flights longer than four hours. Light everyday compression is a sensible habit for long journeys.

Circulation and prolonged sitting
Long stretches of sitting reduce blood flow in the lower legs. Research from Oregon Health and Science University measured a marked drop in lower-limb circulation after just one hour of uninterrupted sitting. Graduated compression supports venous return through long days at a desk.

Varicose veins in UK adults
Varicose veins are very common, affecting a large share of UK adults. They develop when vein valves weaken and blood pools in the legs. Light compression is widely worn as a preventative everyday habit. If you have diagnosed varicose veins, speak to your GP about the right compression for you.

Leg swelling in pregnancy
Blood volume rises sharply during pregnancy, which is why heavy, swollen, aching legs are so common. Light everyday compression is a gentle, widely recommended way to support tired legs. Please check with your midwife or GP first, especially in the third trimester.
